5. Importing Media and Supported Formats

Last updated 2026-10-19

Supported formats

  • Video: MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV
  • Images: PNG, JPG, JPEG, WEBP, BMP (very large images may load slowly or fail; a size close to the output resolution is recommended)
  • Audio: MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, M4A
  • Documents: PDF (one per scene)
  • Subtitles: SRT (UTF-8)
PPT / PPTX are not supported — convert them to PDF first. AVI and GIF cannot be imported either.

Adding media

  • Drag files or folders from Finder onto the media list. Folders are imported including subfolders. Unsupported files are skipped and counted; the same file is never added twice.
  • File → "Set Media Folder…": clears the current media list and imports all media in the chosen folder. Scene layers are also re-pointed to the files with the same names in that folder.
  • Double-click an empty area of the media list to open the media folder in Finder.

Working with the media list

  • Filter…: filter by name.
  • Click the "Name / Duration / Date Modified" headers to sort (numbers sort naturally; click again to reverse). Right-click a header to show or hide the Duration and Date Modified columns.
  • Double-click an item to add it as a layer to the scene in preview. You can also drag it onto a scene card or the layer panel.
  • Right-click an item: "Rename…" (the new name is used for the file copied into the project folder when you save) and "Remove from the list" (the file on disk is not deleted).
  • The broom button at the bottom removes media not used by any scene from the list (with confirmation; files on disk are not deleted).

Importing into scenes in one step

The import button at the bottom creates one scene per file from the items currently shown (after filtering), in the current order.

Warning: this stops playback and deletes all existing scenes without asking. Use it in a new project, or save your project first.
  • Files named "major.minor-name", such as "1.1-Opening" and "1.2-Entrance", are merged into one scene (named for example "1Opening"). In a merged scene 1.1 is the topmost layer and music plays in number order.
  • Names such as "3-1" and "3-2" are not merged, but the resulting scenes get the same color.
